You can make 4 different widths of tape. Simply cut bias fabric strips. Then feed it through this ingenious little tool. And just like that, it folds your fabric strips into perfect halves. All that’s left to do is for you to press it with an iron. Then you’re done!

What is Bias Tape Used For?

Bias tape is made from bias fabric strips. The edges of the bias fabric can be folded under – once for single fold tape. Or twice for double fold tape.

  • Use single fold tape for surface embellishment.
  • Or, double fold tape to bind the edges of quilts and other craft or sewing projects.

The bias tape maker tool only makes single fold bias tape. However, if you want double fold, simply fold it a second time as you attach it to the project. Just remember that the double fold bias tape will be half the size indicated on the tool.

What’s Included in the Kit?

  • Yellow bias binding maker tool (1/2″ / 12mm)
  • Red bias binding maker tool (3/4″ / 18mm)
  • Blue bias binding maker tool (1″ / 25mm)

  • Ball point pins

Steps for Using the Bias Binding Maker

  1. Cut the fabric into the desired amount of bias strips at the required width. Follow the package for recommended strip width. Also, cut the end of your fabric strip at an angle. By doing this, you will insert the strip into the bias binding maker more easily.
  2. Feed the opposite side of the bias strip into the wide end of the tape maker. Then, use the awl to pull the fabric through.
  3. After that, secure the end of the strip with a straight pin to your ironing board.*
  4. Hold the metal ring of the tool with your left hand. Now, slowly pull it away from the pinned end.
  5. Lastly, holding the iron in your right hand, press the folded tape as it appears from the end of the tool.

* Tip: Pin the folded fabric end to the far right end of the ironing surface. This will leave you plenty of room as you press and pull toward the left.

In addition, you can also make bias tape which can be temporarily bonded. You can do that using an iron from any material you like. All you have to do it set heat sensitive adhesive tape in the lower groove. Also, set a piece of fabric cut on the bias in the upper groove. Pull them together and iron in order to fuse.

Make any fabric into an accent, border or trim with this tool kit. It’s fast and economical!
