It is with great excitement that Creative Notions, the local sewing shop in Hermanus announce a brand new partnership! They have teamed up with BERNINA, resulting in them now being the official Bernina dealer in the Overberg region.
Customers were saddened to hear that BERNINA in Hermanus had closed shop in June 2020. The majority sewers in this region own BERNINA machines and they were concerned where local support would be obtained. The closest BERNINA dealer was in Somerset West, approximately 80km from Hermanus. That’s quite a drive for delivering or picking up a machine merely for a service.
But BERNINA South Africa Head Office quickly found a solution. Ivan Stevens, Dealer Manager at BERNINA, got in touch with Creative Notions’ owner, Louis Pretorius and started discussing options.
As Creative Notions is a multi-dealer (selling more than one brand) and BERNINA South Africa deals only with sole BERNINA dealerships, both parties had to compromise in order to create something new. A couple of meetings later, BERNINA Overberg had found a place within Creative Notions! Local sewers will now have a one stop shop for all their machine purchases, services and haberdashery.
“In terms of purchases we will focus on two brands within our shop: BERNINA and Brother“, says Louis. “But sewers need not be concerned as we still service all brands of sewing and embroidery machines as well as overlockers – domestic and industrial. Furthermore, we will continue selling other brands such as Elna, Pfaff and Singer machines and accessories in our online shop.”
On being asked whether BERNINA machines would also be available for purchasing online, Louis gave a mysterious grin and said: “Watch this space...”
Even more exciting news is that Creative Notions will be moving to a bigger shop in December 2020. Louis and his wife, Mireille purchased the old Village Stall in The Village Hemel-en-Aarde shopping centre. The current shop is bursting at the seams (pun intended). But the BERNINA partnership was the motivation they needed to take the final leap.
The bigger shop also offers the opportunity for expansion, such as daily sewing courses, a small coffee shop and even space for displaying products needed for crocheting and knitting.
